Meet the Team
Alison Symns - Key Account Manager

Alison Symns was very coy about sending over any photographs so here are a pair of shoes. I managed to meet up with her at the office and posed the usual questions. Of course we weren't going to let her get away without a picture so a quick check of Facebook revealed this one.

“Thanks for agreeing to do this Alison.
Could you start off by explaining your role within PSU?”

I joined PSU last year as a Telecoms Key Account Manager, which in a nutshell means looking after some of the key accounts for PSU and ensuring that they remain customers for a long period!

“What areas of your work do you enjoy the most?”

Customer meetings face to face. Gaining an understanding of how the customers business works and how PSU could assist with this. Also enjoy it when customers present me with issues or challenges to solve to help them overcome existing blockages to their business in terms of telecoms.

“What areas of your work do you find the most challenging?”

Keeping the mileage down!!

“What jobs have you done before joining PSU?”

I spent 10 years at a Hampshire based telecoms reseller (acquired a few years ago by the Carphone Warehouse) doing a variety of roles from Sales Assistant, Project Co-ordinator, Add-ons and Upgrades Co-ordinator, Account Manager and New Business Sales.

“What sort of holidays do you enjoy most,
culture vulture or worshipping at the sun altar?”

To be honest a bit of both, I like to relax and do very little, but find sunbathing boring, so sun combined with shopping and sight seeing is better.

“Where have you been in the world and where would you go back to?”

I think shopping in New York was the most fun, but as this was an all expenses paid trip, that was probably why.

I also love Germany and am planning to retire out there.

“Where would you like to travel to in the future?”

Am open to suggestions really and will try anything or anywhere once.

“What do you like to get up to in your spare time?”

Don’t get a lot of spare time, as when work is finished I turn into mum and all round entertainer and taxi!

“Sports you’ve participated in?”

None recently, but at school and college, Hockey,
Volleyball and Netball.

“What sort of music do you have on your ipod?”

God, this may say a lot about me but varied from Abba, as I've just seen Mamma Mia, James, Paul Weller, McFly, Girls Aloud, Catherine Jenkins are to name a few.

“What cars have you owned during your life, and which was the favourite?”

Life started with a Talbot Sunbeam at College and Uni, but my dad had a governor put on it so it did not go over 40 mph!!! No fun when you go to Uni in Hull and have to go over the Moors!

Then came a Renault 19 which had loads of problems with it, or it could have been my driving. Next a Fiat Punto which was great for getting round town and very economical. My first company car was a Ford Mondeo, which was not too bad but not built for comfort! I then bought a Honda Accord with all the gadgets and really liked this car.

But my best one of all is the one I got last year which is a Honda CRV with all the gadgets. As I spend a lot of time out of the road driving to customer sites, I believe in comfort over speed!

“If money was no object, which car/s would you choose to own?”

Not ever really been into cars as long as it gets me from A to B in a bit of comfort, so I would say the one I have now.

“What are your life goals?
Where do you see yourself in 20 years time?”

1. Happy and alive
2. Have an excellent relationship still with my daughter and have seen her married off
3. Planning my retirement and setting the wheels in motion to leave the UK
4. Bit of money in a savings account would be nice!!!

“If you had to choose a three course meal with wine, what would it be and where would you have it?”

I would have:

Crispy Duck for starters

Roast Beet Dinner with all the trimmings

Chocolate Fudge Cake warm with Ice Cream

"Location?"

I would like to get Gordon Ramsey to my house to cook it for me and then enjoy his company over dinner.

Finally some quick-fire questions:

1. “Favourite film” - Titanic
2. “Favourite actress” – None really
3. “Favourite television program” – at present Send in the Dogs or Krypton Factor, as it brings back memories of my youth!
4. “Favourite televised sport” - Rugby
5. “Favourite author” – don’t read!
6. “Favourite holiday destination” - Cyprus
7. “Favourite night out” – girlie weekend away
8. “Favourite music” – anything audible
9. “Favourite band” – None really
10. “Favourite inspiring quote” – “Je pense donc je suis”
